7 Disease Causing Foods

What we eat can either make us healthy or sick. Just as there are healthy foods in the market that we should eat to stay healthy, there are also disease causing foods that we must avoid and should not consume at all. These kinds of foods are food that we commonly encounter every day and foods that we actually think are safe for us. Yes, they may be safe if only consumed once or twice but if they are a part of your regular diet, you will be at serious risk of certain diseases. Some of these foods are listed below:

margarine

1. Margarine

Margarine is often thought of as a healthier version of butter because of its low cholesterol content. However, it is also a good source of trans fat which increases the cholesterol level in your body. Not only that, trans fats are also known to cause cancer. If you have to use margarine, a better and healthier substitute would be olive oil.

2. Microwave popcorn

Microwave popcorn is a favorite snack during movie nights. But unknown to most consumers, some workers of microwave popcorn companies were reported to have developed a rare kind of lung cancer caused by inhaling fumes in the factories. Aside from that, the linings of popcorn bags contain pefluorooctanoic acid which is linked to infertility and cancer. Additionally, microwave popcorn is loaded with sodium and fats which cause kidney problems and other diseases. Overall, there is nothing healthy about eating microwave popcorn but it is instead one of the disease-causing foods that you must avoid.

3. Non-organic apples

Apples are naturally not a disease causing food. In fact, they are a rich source of antioxidants. That is why the common saying that an apple a day keeps the doctor away is somewhat true. But this does not apply to non-organic and pesticide-laden apples. Apples are prone to insects which is why they are heavily sprayed by many commercial growers with pesticides. Additionally, they are also treated with chemicals to increase their shelf life. These chemicals are toxic and can cause various forms of diseases. If you like to benefit from the nutritional value of apples, buy apples that are organic only.

4. Soda and energy drinks

When thirsty, some people prefer to drink soda or energy drinks instead of water. This is a bad habit that can increase the risks of diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and even cancer. Even diet soda is not healthy at all. If you like to stay fit, just drink water.

5. Chips and French Fries

Another favorite snack is French Fries and chips, more particularly potato chips and corn chips. They may taste good but they are also high in sodium and fats and contain acrylamide which is associated with an increased risk of cancer and infertility among men and women.

6. Cured meats

Most favorite foods of people for breakfast include cured meats such as sausage, bacon, and hot dogs. These foods are not exempt from disease causing foods. Cured foods normally contain nitrates or nitrites which are a common cause of cancer including leukemia among children.

7. Milk containing artificial hormones

We think of milk as healthy especially for our bones. This may be true but some commercial milk produced by cows with shots of artificial hormones may not be the best milk for you or your family. These hormones are not properly absorbed by the cows’ bodies but instead are transferred to the milk they produce. The presence of artificial hormones in milk increases your risk of cancer. When you buy milk, buy only organic or those labeled as BST-free or rBGH-free.

Keep these disease causing foods in mind and avoid them as much as you can to lower your risk of cancer and other diseases and to stay healthy.
