Keeping your children’s bedrooms clean may seem like a daunting and just about impossible task. They play it in just about every day and can create little tornadoes of destruction in a matter of minutes. So, is there a way to keep your kid’s room neat and organized? You bet! Follow a few simple tips to both deep clean the area and keep it free from clutter:
Provide plenty of storage space: One of the biggest gripes of parents trying to keep their children’s room clean is the sheer amount of “stuff” that ends up on the floor. Provide plenty of bins, bookshelves and baskets in which they can stick some of their more “random” items that don’t necessarily have a home.
Wash stuffed animals often: If you are wondering why your child has allergies or is just constantly sneezing, the stuffed animals in his/her room might to be blame. Wash them at least once a month. You can do this by simply stuffing a bunch of them into a pillowcase, tying a knot at the top and sticking it into the washing machine. You can also sprinkle baking soda into a bag and shake up the bag with the stuffed animals in it; this doesn’t necessarily clean but it does refresh the animals.
Label everything: Even the smallest boxes should have labels on them to ensure that your kids know where everything goes. They may still get stuff mixed up, but at least they have a visual guide of where everything in the room actually goes. Use colorful labels, stickers and any other creative elements you can find to make the labels look fun and interesting.
Play music during clean-up: Kids are more likely to stay on task while cleaning if you play some music while they do it. Play the music loud and play songs you know they will enjoy. Encourage everyone to sing along while you all clean and make sure to play everyone’s favorite song at least once.
Clean out toys at least once a month: Anything they are truly no longer playing with needs to go to a charity or be stored for a future garage sale. You might even put some of their toys away and rotate them out once a month, so it seems like they always have something new to play with.
